Review of the film "Letters to GOD"

I recently rented a movie titled Letters to GOD. I wasn't sure what the movie was about but the fact that it was addressing God got my attentin. I never like to read reviews in advance because I don't want to be influenced by anyone else, so typically I rent a movie blind and form my own opinion.

Letters to God is directed by David Nixon and Patrick Doughtie. The storyline is about a young boy battling with a serious disease and he begins writing Letters to GOD to express his heart about what is going on in his life. This young man not only touches the lives of his immediate family, but touches the lives of almost everyone in his community.

This film was produced with such excellence that I didn't realize until mid-way that it was a "true" Christian film. The reason I use the word "true" is because there are very few films that are nationally distributed in the mainstream media that mention the name Jesus and that are done with such excellence. Sure, there are many films and television programs that say the name "God", but very few that allow their actors to speak the name of Jesus so boldly.

When I was watching this film it took me back to thoughts of my first husband who battled Sickle Cell Disease in the 90's. I remembered feeling some of the same things that the mother of this son felt. My husband would have these episodes in an instant and I had to learn to react quickly in order to keep the pain under control. It was a difficult thing for someone in their 20's to deal with, but my husband was my best friend and I wanted it to be well with him. However, I was not prepared for his death. It took me by total surprise and I walked around for months in a daze.

I gave my life to Christ when I was 16 years old and I believe that Jesus is the son of God and that He came to earth to die for my sins and that He rose from the dead and is now sitting at the right hand of the Father making intercession for me. Although, I accepted Jesus as my Savior. I didn't really understand until years later, that I needed Him to be the Lord of my life as well in order to live the Abundant life!

The film Letters to GOD brought me back to the time of my husband's death but this time instead of feeling the pain of his death, my heart was filled with the Love of Christ. It was as though the Father's love was washing all over me and telling me, "I love you" and I will never leave you. Near the end of the film the tears were flowing like a river and my heart was full. I would recommend that you rent this movie from Blockbuster Express or the Red Box and if you have an opportunity to purchase the film it will bless your soul and give you Hope even in your darkest hour.
